No-one has ever bothered me about this, but Metro is a little hazy on the details for using a day pass. On one hand, the documentation is adamant that you must have a separate ticket for each rail line, and another fare entirely for buses. On the other hand, there would be little value to a day pass were it not transferable.

I just get the day pass if I know I'm gonna switch lines, and I know it's not good on all buses (but apparently is acceptable on some of the express buses, as in to LAX). I asked a cop once when he checked my pass, but he just kinda shrugged and waved me on by. I've taken the trains quite a bit and never been bothered, thus I presume it is used exactly as I've been using it.

Anyone have an official word on day passes, transfers and the like when riding the Metro?

a day pass is good for MTA buses, rapid or otherwise and the MTA rail system. it is 5 bucks, and is only valid on Metro. you would have to pay a bit extra if you were riding the express buses that take the freeway (i think). the pass is not good on the Montebello blue, the SaMo BLue, foothill, etc etc without a transfer. you should check the website for more info

metro.net

but if you only are riding the METRO buses and rails, you will be fine. always have your ticket. the metro rail system is honor based, and they do regular checks. i have encountered cops checking tickets about 2 a week. once a week minimum.

pay the 5 dllrs and ride any metro bus or train you want. no need to worry about how many tickets you have. of course this is only good if you ride more than 4 trips a day.
i do ride more than 4 seperate lines daily.
it works out great.
except i dont need a day pass, i have a work subsidized monthly pass
