The only times I went to VB walk was in the day time. I really don't if the walk is active after dark.

Is the Venice Beach walk well active at night as it is in the daytime?

As far as I know(never been there at night), it can actually be pretty sketchy at night. I'm sure it's not as active, but not for sure?

The boardwalk itself, although less active than during the day, does have some life at night thanks to some bars and restaurants that are open. Nowadays I'd consider it relatively safe as long as one stays off the sand (a whole other issue). Some of the nearby alleys could still be a bit sketchy and demand some caution. I do not recommend going on the sand at night at all - and the locals generally stay on the boardwalk and off the beach itself at night. However there are generally enough people on the boardwalk at night that it couldn't be considered dangerous. I've actually never felt unsafe on the boardwalk at night. Just use the same common sense one would use in L.A. as a whole or in S.F., NYC, London, or any other large city and you'll be just fine.

the boardwalk itself almost clears out completely after dark except for a very few number of bars near the santa monica border as well as the local homeless that congregate in certain areas. as far as safety, i jog on the boardwalk weekly after dark and have been doing so for years and never once had an issue.
