One big obstacle is the many historic areas around. If it wasnt for that height code in the early days, we would be good.

However, I dont mind seeing more midrises, or high rises clustered together. Get rid of some lame suburbs and add some urbanity.

La doesn't just have the down town. We have many areas that have concentrations of large buildings. Look at the list that1guy has on his post. Many of those areas on their own would rival a majority of states down town districts.
The Grand Wilshire will be around the pinnacle height of the John Hancock. Very exciting. It will redefine the whole downtown area. Downtown is pretty far ahead of the other areas though. Maybe CC will be more than a giant business park one day, but It does have the building from die hard which is pretty rad.

I wish L.A. could have some amazing corridors like other cities. Imagine Hollywood having one?

Paris and London don't have much in the way of skyscrapers. Guess they're not "standing tall".

Skyscrapers are monuments to vanity and built by the people whose purpose is to find every conceivable way to separate you from your money.

Maybe they're built by guys who are trying to overcompensate for the same problem that drives them to buy expensive sportscars.

I see skyscrapers as amazing feets of engineering. Your downplaying people who always dreamed of building one when they were kids. Only ones that are vanity are places like Dubai.

Skyscrapers are beautiful. The Chrysler Building is as beautiful as any other building on earth.

NO!!!!!!!

Even though I support the Hollywood Community Plan (the so-called "Manhattanization" of Hollywood), I would be against turning Hollywood into Century City "East". IMO nothing new in Hollywood should ever exceed the height of the Sunset / Vine tower.

they make the city crampt in one area. all expert will tell you to never put all your eggs in one basket. it is just the reality of life. It is dangerous specialy in the world we are living in. one sunami and the wall city is gone. no one hates skycrapers. I just like a bigger city with more space, beaches, nice weater better. with a lot of potentiel. you can built new york in LA if you want and even add paris inside too that is how big greater LA is.
