Does it need them? Probably not. Especially if they're ugly. Then again, if it's just replacing ugly with a bit less ugly, then that's fine.

Yes, unless you think endless suburban sprawl is a great thing. LA area planners should try to increase density by focusing on building living/working/shopping areas in major core location.

I am of the opinion that LA should look less to NYC and Chicago for inspiration and more to cities in Latin America like Rio, Mexico City or costal Asian cities like Hong Kong. LA has too much of a different look to try and pull off a gothic metropolitan look and should instead focus on meshing well with it's mediterranean environment.

It should just embrace that instead of trying hard to be in the same class as Paris, London, NYC.

Agreed. It is a different kind of world-class city than places like NYC and London. The same way Washington, D.C. is its own style of city.

Things are very spread out and LA is a different kind of city than most, but it's still a top and unique city.

I think in terms of sheer relevance...as to places "people have heard of", LA might be the most relevant city in the world.

Most envied as well in my opinion. At least in the US for sure.

Our biggest skyscrapers were designed by Mother Nature:

Speaking of which, when will those mountains be covered in snow?

There's some snow forecast for the mountains this week actually (with a little rain for us). Not too much, probably.

Too bad, you have to be at a specific angle to even see the mountain, let alone, the constant haze over the city and valleys.

Also, the mountains in that pic is greatly exaggerating.

That's kinda the way it works. They're mountains, they don't move into view depending on where you're looking. I can see them just fine, even on smoggy days--anyone who says otherwise was probably looking in the direction of the Pacific Ocean. Dummies.

As for skylines, I couldn't care less. They're nice to look at for a minute, and that's it. No one has ever lost sleep over L.A.'s relative lack of skyscrapers (well, maybe Chicano3000 has), and nobody should. It's pretty insignificant in the grand scheme of things. It's not like L.A. has nothing either:

We're fine with what we got.
