Thanks for the pics. The people look like New Yorkers honestly but the ethnic make-up more Western Queens, Sunset Park/Midwood/Park Slop Brooklyn and uptown areas of Manhattan.

I know this may seem odd, but the preponderance of a dense collection of low rise buildings with crops of tall buildings is more like parts of Brooklyn and Queens than Manhattan. I think people from Los Angeles may enjoy checking the boros out in greater deal when they visit NYC.

Can you tell me what camera do you use? I want to take class in digital photography and start taking this kind of pics. What kind of (beginner) camera shoould I get? Nikon and Cannon Rebel? How much should I spend? Please let me know, I have been thinking about this a long time and your pics really inspired me.
Thanks Prius! Glad I inspired you but I'm by no means an expert. I'm actually thinking of taking a class myself because I lack a lot of the photography fundamentals, and often use the auto mode on my camera rather than tinker with all the variables in manual.

I shoot with a Panasonic Lumix G3. Its a micro four thirds format, so its a bit more compact than a DLSR, but still miles better quality than a point and shoot, and you have the benefit of interchangable lenses. I'm beginning to regret not getting a DLSR though- they have better low light performance, and with these candids I find that sunset and after is a good time to shoot because many people are out.

I shot these pics with an Olympus M ED 9-18mm wide angle lens.

Love your blog, astoria! You have a great eye for little details.

I'll have to post some photos of the buildings my own neighborhood of Koreatown sometime. I've heard New Yorkers describe it as "Brooklyn with palm trees" Lots of 3-10 story pre-war brick buildings. Sadly, we have no brownstones though.

Awesome shots, Pwright1. You're inspiring me to get out there and do some architecture and landscape shots.

By the way, where is this?

looks awesome. Ive never been there except for an elementary school trip in 5th grade so I dont remember it. I really wish there was a cheaper way to get there so its reasonable to take a day trip (too poor to make 60 bucks each I believe worthwhile just to get there and back). I cant find anything cheaper than those main boats that take you there
