I'll never figure it out. Every single Saturday, the 10 east through the San Gabriel Valley (from Fremont Ave. to the 605) is slow as ****. why do so many people want to go east on Saturday at 1-2 PM? the beaches are the other way!

if they take the 10 to the 605, then 210 or if they take the 10 to the 15, they could be driving to vegas or victorville. they could be going to the desert or seeing family mbs in the inland empire. I just imagine that many relatives and friends have moved to the inland empire in recent years and that those that live in los angeles area are just visiting.

It is kinda strange though.

There are no boundary lines in which we can't travel to. Everybody has their own reason for traveling on a freeway no matter what direction at any given moment of time in LA.

I noticed during the weekdays the rule is traffic generally congested westbound in the morning and congested eastbound during the afternoons in LA metropolitan area. Downtown appears to have little effect on traffic patterns as it appears jobs are generally west of downtown than within downtown. Of course downtown appears to be the switchboard for traffic therefore it seems always congested at all hours. Though in the weekend traffic is much less predictable as it heads all directions. Though one explanation I have for congestion in San Gabriel Valley is the concentration of Chinese/Asian goods within San Gabriel Valley between 710 and 605 and people from all over LA particularly Asians drive there to shop Asian/Chinese goods or to eat at authentic Chinese restaurants. Most of these are concentrated places known as New Chinatown which encompasses parts of Monterey Park, Alhambra, Rosemead, San Gabriel, and Temple City hence the congestion on city streets there often spills over unto the 10 freeway. I personally know people who live in Westside LA or Santa Monica who drive to "New Chinatown" in SGV frequently to get Chinese food and goods and they frequently have to deal with traffic getting there. LA's old Chinatown is just too small and does not have much choices within it. Therefore I bet this is the main reason for traffic jams on that stretch of i10. One thing I don't understand is why there isn't more authentic Chinese food or markets in LA proper? It appears in LA ethnic Chinese goods only concentrate in some cities but not others its kind of like one is a whole different country by driving a few miles.

Everyone is going for dim sum! And based on the great places I've been to Monterey Park, Arcadia, and Temple City, I don't blame them. I had a lot of former Chinese co-workers who did this especially on Saturdays.

Yes it appears I find the weird the phenomena in LA basin is that specific ethnic goods are always concentrated to certain "oasis" towns in the valley which is kind of like a desert oasis "watering hole" situation. This forces people all over the basin to all crowd over there to meet their needs or cravings. This is particularly true with Chinese items despite the fact Chinese live all over city of LA and suburbs in the basin. I am guessing its because these towns were nicer to them in the past in allowing them to keep their own language store names while others insist them to adopt real English names back in the 1970s and 1980s.

I'll join other posters in asking why you're resurrecting threads from so many years ago, especially when you have nothing to add to the OP.

This particular thread is from NINE years ago.
