My family and I are planning to move to Alexandria/Lake Charles area. Can anyone tell us about the areas? Grade Schools, Colleges/Universities, jobs that are there. We are wanting to rent a home/house trailer preferbly as we have pets. In the country or the outskirts of town would be nice. Also we are history buffs and love to learn about the history around us and sight see. Just let us know how to whom to inquire about any of the above mentioned items. Thanks to all and we can't wait to be there.

There is a huge distance between those two cities.. are you planning on going somewhere specifically or are you trying to decide between the two places?

I live in Lake Charles and first let me say that alexandria and lake charles are not even in the same parish. Lake Charles is in the Calcasieu parish and Alexandria is in the Rapides parish. Lake Charles, actually has quite a bit of rural land, especially past gauthier road. If you are looking for other rural opportunities, check out vinton, and Dequincy. If you are looking to be in a suburb, Sulphur and Moss Bluff is where alot of building is taking place. Also even in Lake Charles, you can live outside of the city limits.

I've been to both places to visit and I'd have to say I like Lake Charles much better.
