I am a young professional who is considering a move to the New Orleans area. I have the opportunity to work for the New Orleans Zephyrs minor league baseball team. They are located in Metairie. I know nothing about the area as I have only been a visitor to NOLA. I am looking for a safe neighborhood for a 23 year old single male. I do not have any friends or relatives in NOLA so I will be moving all alone. I am looking for something under $1000 as my salary will not be the greatest. Any information will help. Thanks!

Obviously by saying under $1000 I am looking to rent, just making sure I did not confuse anyone

I'm not from that area but have a good friend that lived in Metaire (until Katrina). From what she told me, you should be able to find something very nice in Metaire for the rent you can pay.

We used to live in Mid-City. It's close to Metairie, not far from I-10. You should be able to find something in your price range there.

23? Single? You're going to want to be in the city. Metairie is quite suburban and family oriented. Mid-City is a great option and would be the easiest commute to Zepher Field. Its a diverse area with quite a few post college age 20-30 somethings, but also some small families. Its walkable, bikeable and the streetcar can get you downtown to the Quarter/CBD. There's also a number of cool bars and restaurants in the neighborhood as well as a Home Depot, a grocery (soon to be 2), and its close to City Park. Look near Carrollton Ave. and Canal St.

There's an even bigger singles scene in parts of Uptown/Garden Dist/Lower Garden Dist which includes a lot of undergrads from Tuland and Loyola. It can be a pain to get to and from Metaire from over there, but it might be woth it depending on what you're looking for.
