I am moving to Lafayette at the end of February. I'm still looking for housing. Any help is greatly appreciated.. How would you describe the cost of living towards Central States.

Thanks
Jim

I think the central states/midwest is the cheapest COL in the country so its probably a little bit above that but still relatively low. Lafayette property values are a bit higher than the average in Louisiana but the value in terms of amenities and food and access to events and a very lively growing city cannot be understated.
I and others have posted quite a bit throughout this forum about Lafayette and its future and the best way to keep up with whats going on is the website: Developing Lafayette - Developing Lafayette is a trendy way to know what new places are coming soon and what places are being revamped.
You can read about coming restaurants, shoppping centers, attractions, community events, parks, infrastructure improvements. Overall a fantastic way of keeping up with the area.

As for housing information, I suppose it depends on what sort of place you want and how much youre willing to spend. Feel free to ask questions to narrow it down.

Louisiana tends to be expensive for things like car and home insurance. The price of housing can be higher than say Memphis or Houston, but property taxes are low. There is no tax on food items at groceries. (I think this is still true)
