Strongly considering making a visit with family for a few days just after Christmas. I know that Bayous are a spectacular feature of the Louisiana landscape. I am not sure how much in what ways they differ from Florida's swamps, but I am curious to find out. I know Atchafalaya is pretty famous (I think it has the widest/biggest tree in the Eastern US, though I could be mistaken). Anyways, which is the closest bayou of this nature to get a good experience (hiking, etc.), within perhaps a 90 minute drive of NOLA? Thanks all!

Edit: One other question, sorry, what is the best place to see live jazz on Frenchmen St? Goals would include obviously good music, iconic venue/aesthetic, food/drink options? comfortable-ish setting, frequent performances, etc. Thanks!

For hiking, do the Jean Lafitte National Park Barataria Preserve:

There are many hiking trails and a visitors center with a presentation and water/restrooms.
