I've been wondering this for some years now, but does anyone know why New Orleans and Kenner have different brake tags then the rest of the state? Even the people at the brake tag station didn't know. I always thought that it was a STATE inspection so it always seemed off to me.

Please excuse my ignorance. What are break tags?

Brake tags. Isn't it just the NOLA version of the safety inspection? They do charge more, from what I've heard. So I take it it's a city money maker. NOLA, Kenner and Westwego were/are the only three municipalities in the state that have inspection programs that are outside of and not regulated by the state. They have brake tags.
I think some larger cities have brake tags, mainly for their cabs (for hire cars/limos), etc.

Brake Tags:

Those are the New Orleans and Jefferson Parish (excluding Westwego and Kenner) tags. Kenner's is white with a green K and I don't remember Westwego's.

I honestly thought they were known as brake tags statewide .

Darylwi: Yea I guess it's probably just another way to make money. But I still find it odd for the state to give control over inspections to city governments .
