We are a professional couple relocating to Louisville. We would prefer to rent through a private owner or agency (rather than going into a traditional apartment complex).

However, i am not sure of the best way to find rental listings? Almost all of my online searches return apartment complexes. I have found a handful of private owner condo/townhouse/home rental listings on Craigslist, but I am sure there have got to be more out there. Any suggestions of how to go about finding them??

If it helps...we are mid-40's, non-smoking, no pets, looking to rent for now but will consider buying in the future. I have family in the 'Ville and visit often, so I know the areas we would like to consider (ideal would be St. Mathews/Highlands). Two bedroom/two bath would be ideal, but would consider one bath or bath-and-a-half. A/C and W/D connections a must. Budget is a bit of an issue, as only one of us is in Louisville right now (I will be joining in the spring!).

Best best is to pull up a list of realtors in the area, as they handle the rentals around here also.
Another good idea is to actually come to town and drive around and look for for rent signs in neighborhoods close to where you are working, as some private owners don't advertise.
Unfortunatly rentals are hard to come by and go quick here...you have to act fast.
God bless, hope you find something great.

Thanks for the suggestion, I will try some realtors. My other half is already in Louisville, so while I have to check virtually, he can check in person, which is good!

Some ideas

House for rent East End, Louisville Area furnished 2 bedroom 1 bath House posted by Owner for 1500 per month. Rental 751016

Prime Location (http://louisville.craigslist.org/apa/2037899314.html - broken link)

Other than craigslist, try picking up the courier-journal classifieds and drive around and look for "for rent" signs.
