Oh good grief guys. I believe in supporting local business too. I, as a rule, don't shop at Wal*Mart. I walked in because I've never seen that type of "Neighborhood Wal*Mart" that just acts as a grocery store, so I was curious. I had a look and that was it.

I have actually been into that one a few times because it is 24 hours. It is small enough and more friendly so it doesn't seem like "walmart," and very convenient to be able to pick up bread at 3 am in Germantown, where before you had to drive 10 minutes into the Highlands for a grocery at that hour. But after watching the documentary and researching Walmart, I cannot support them in good faith. I understand why people go there though.

I've always liked Kroger.

No question I save money at Sam's, but you have to be careful when buying in bulk. I've found that the food spoils or I get sick of eating it if I buy in bulk. Obviously that's not the case with TP or soap, etc.

Yeah...buying bulk just isn't safe anymore. Think of all the food recalls going on. Corporate farming/processing isn't a good thing.

I saw a Piggly-Wiggly when I was in Alabama, believe it or not!

Always sad to see the chains come in and kill off the locally owned stores.

Except no one is killing off Valu-Market. I disagree with Missy. Winn-Dixie is a junky southern chain, and I am glad they left. It has given Valumarket and some smaller grocers chances to infill where Kroger and the big boxes have left space.

The Winn-Dixie near me had been there for many years and what is there now??? Nothing. The Beuhler's that took over lasted a year or so and now there is nothing there. Why? People loved their Winn-Dixie.
