Apartments in Louisville near the U of L School of Medicine (lease, eviction)

I am a 23 year old male student moving to Louisville in June to start medical school at U of L.

I am looking for an apartment close to the medical school (within 5-10 minute drive or biking distance) in a safe, diverse neighborhood with other young people. So maybe the downtown or Old Louisville.

Willing to pay $600/month for a 1 or 2 bedroom apartment, $700/month maximum. I would like the apartment to bundle utilities (water, trash, sewer, heat) and have high speed internet, cable, parking available. Something like The Mayflower or 800 apartments.

Any help in finding an apartment would be greatly appreciated!

You won't have any problems with that price range. Very few apartments listed in the LEO, sad to say. Look on Craig's List or try coffeehouse boards (like Sunergos on Preston).

First, let me tell you that the Mayflower or the 800 are on the "low end" of the highrise living in Louisville. I don't want to scare you away from these properties, and their strength is their views, but I do not feel managemnt of either property has upkept the property to an extent that you would expect as a young professional.

I would recommend some other options within walking distance of downtown Louisville medical district. Private message me for more information. Also, check craigslist Louisville.
You will want to look for anything marked "downtown" "campus" "UofL" "Old Louisville," as well as some of the cities preimere urban areas, such as Highlands, Crescent Hill, Clifton, Beechmont, Buthertown, and St Matthews. Nodal streets to be near are fourth street, bardstown road, and frankfort avenue.

Dont you even think of going to the Mayflower apartments, I lived in those dirty apartments for 6 weeks and it was one of the worse experiences I ever had, I don't know where to start honestly, the smell in that place stinks!! probably because there are more dogs there than people, seriously its like a pet store, you would find every kind of dog you ever imagined, and in different sizes too!! the apartment was dirty, the stove did not work, there was no pillow and whenever you are taking a shower or running the water for a few minutes, the water suddenly turns yellow brown!!! I don't know about the location of the place but it seems a little dangerous, they had the whole neighborhood under cameras surveillance, so I suppose it wasn't a very safe neighborhood, and after that you know what'!! when I checked out I asked for my deposit and they told me the check needs some processing and that I will receive it in 2 months, 2 months passes by and there is nothing, I call them and they tell me they will look into it, and after a couple more months nothing happens, this keeps on going for nearly 2 years and one of the times I called them the lady there told me that she is sending the check today and I am supposed to get it in a few days and after a month I call her and ask her about the check and she doesn't even remember me!!!! anyway a week ago I call again as usual and she tells me that the owner just remembered who I am, I am the guy who damaged the apartment, and we are sorry but we are not giving you back your deposit!! believe it or not I left the apartment in a better shape than when I first got it, at least it had a pillow when I left it!! so its not only the nasty apartments they have, they steal your money too!! so I am warning you, this is the last place you want to consider living in, and you would imagine that trash can would be a cheap place but its not, the studio apartment is for 700$/month, and since your deposit will never come back to you it will be 950$/month, ohh and by the way, 2 of my friends who lived there did not get their deposit back so I am not kidding when I tell you kiss that deposit goodbye, they keep on changing the lady on the front desk so what happened with me is that I contacted one lady so I can rent the apartment and I sent her the deposit, when i checked in there was a new lady and a few months after I left and called them about my deposit it was a 3rd lady, which of course will make it even harder for anyone to get their deposit!! anyway I can keep on talking for years about how bad those 6 weeks were, just dont think of passing infront of that place, and I swear I am NOT exaggerating anything!

The Mayflower isn't a flop house, but may be headed in that direction, unfortunately. The 800 used to be a premier spot to live in the past, but those days are gone.

This disgusting hole is unfit for human habitation. The ground floor lobby is the ONLY part of the entire building that has been properly maintained. The filthy, single-room so-called apartment boasted an unusable closet with walls leaking mold; an ancient, heavily gouged wooden floor spattered with black gobs of unknown goo; water that ran rusty brown out of the bathroom and kitchen; a bathroom floor with green mold all over the floor and Rustoleum-painted walls that stuck in brown patches to my shower curtain AND SKIN; a broken window missing a piece 8" X 4" that the manager refused to replace; an ancient, leaky gas stove that lacked all its oven racks as well any temperature markings on the dials; and a foul stench of urine and marijuana from the prior tenant. Even the manager acknowledged she fears going to the 1st and 2nd floors due to pervasive odors of various illegal drugs. Only the tiny bathroom window had a screen. The heat runs 24/7 and is stifling even in the coldest weather. Hideous views of the dumpsters and one's neighbors in their bathrooms. Orange Kleig lights glare through the inadequate blinds. All night long, low-flying airplanes roar and nearby CSX trains crash, while gunshots, shouts, and screams abound on the sidewalks. The supposed free telephone service provides only local calls and cannot even make toll-free calls. One tiny elevator with room for 4 - 5 people serves the entire 80+ unit building, so long waits are the rule. I rented this abominable sty sight unseen, trusting the duplicitous manager's promises. After two days, tried to break the lease and was bullied with threats of a lawsuit. After filing four courteous, written complaints with the manager, she accused me of harassing her and filed an eviction notice the day AFTER she cashed my second month's rent check. Absolutely the most HORRIFYING, NASTY place I have ever lived, even in my college days.

You resurrected a 3 year old thread as your fist post to the forum. While I respect your opinion, I suspect much of it is hyperbole based on your writing style. I lived near that area for 3 years and never heard gunshots or CSX trains crashing. Don't you think if a train crashed, it would be on the news?

Anywho, I do agree the Mayflower has seen better days, which is a shame because it was built with the same historic quality and grandeur as the Seelbach as it was formerly a hotel.

There are plenty of other quality housing options in the area, but real good option is Social and Park. It is priced about the same as Mayflower but 10 times nicer. I know the owner/developer and can vouch that he is a good landlord:
