I came to post the exact same thing midgeorgiaman did. That part of Macon is home to one of the most notorious Crip Gang sets in the Southeast, maybe even outside of Cali. They're so deep in it, "OGs" from Cali, even a Crip rapper who was in the famous movie "Menace II Society movie has been to clubs out there doing shows with fellow Crip affiliates. There is no reviving that area. You have GROWN (as in 30, 40+ year old) people out there gang banging. It's deep. They have neighborhood "Crip" holidays with uncles, aunts, and grandmas in on the entire thing. It's truly weird and pathetic.

No, the Westside in general is a very depressed area. Eisenhower/Pio Nono look even worse than Mercer U. Drive to me. Mercer/Eisenhower/Pio Nono arent even the worst looking areas. If you turned off of Eisenhower unto Houston Ave or went the other way down MLK unto Broadway, you would've encountered even worse looking neighborhoods. There's no denying we have some REAL nasty parts of Macon. Luckily, we have areas like the ones you named that are nothing like those.

In a Nut Shell,,, South Macon has gone to the Dumps and is the Hood,, point blank, Period. I think it's like the worse part of Town, both Commercial and Residential!!! There is no way the Macon Mall can survive in its current form and location and a lot has to do with the Area turning from a Suburban district back in the 1970's and 80's to now in present day, a run down inner city district. IMO, most people shouldn't expect for it to survive in it's current form, just like Westgate Mall has not. With time things change and it's time for South Macon to revitalize and Change as well... Many Cities and Areas around the Country have stepped up to the challenge, why not South Macon. Have to give it to the DT area though, it's definitely stepped up to the challenge.

I try to find the positive in things but if one really wanted to put the final nail in the coffin of the mall...put a movie theater there. Hundreds of unattended teens would do it.

I don't think the mall will survive. Presidential Pkwy will, but the mall is slowly coming to an end. Other than B Turners and Burlington , I haven't been there in years and I don't think I'm alone.

I recently stopped in at the Harbor Freight Tools at Eisenhower and Pio Nono. They have expanded! For a brief moment I thought that maybe there was hope for that area after all. Maybe the abandoned Home Depot doesn't look so new anymore. Maybe the cars in the parking lots of all those once empty buildings looked better to my eyes than before. I am not sure.

And then I read this thread.

"You have entered the twilight zone, beyond this world strange things are known."
