My family is moving to Madison this summer, and we're hoping to rent a house in the Monroe/Vilas/Regent St. area (near Blessed Sacrament School). I haven't seen many craigslist postings for that area, and wonder if there are other ways to locate rental homes in that area. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

You're not getting any responses because there aren't many rentals around B.S. School. It's some of the best real estate in the city, and is therefore mostly owner-occupied single family residences.
As Vilas area approaches Park St, there are many rentals, but they're the student housing that you're trying to avoid.
You may find something from one of the bigger property management companies, such as
Madison Property Management, Inc.
or if you know anyone that lives in town and could just drive around your target streets and look for signs?
Good luck.

I agree. I didn't respond because of that.

Maybe contact BS and ask if they know of any available rentals in the area. It's a long shot, but you might come up with something. Also, real estate agents might know of clients who have decided to rent rather than let their houses sit empty while they wait to sell.

You might have a bit more luck on the east side of Monroe, just south of Regent St. I lived on Madison St between Garfield and Oakland until this past July, and that street, for one, is a mix of rental and owner-occupied housing from Garfield to Regent (with a decent skew toward owner-occupied). It was quiet (excepting football Saturdays, in which case it was usually the owner-occupied houses that were the loudest...no matter how old, UW alumni love their football), and you still have great access to Trader Joe's, etc, and a 35-minute walk to the Capitol, if you feel so inclined.

Check out Tallard Apartments in addition to MPM. I think their rental base is centered in the Vilas Neighborhood, and I had a pretty decent experience in dealing with them for the year I rented there.
