Could be. I'd take a good look in person before deciding. Farther south on Park gets into some decidedly iffy areas, and the Olin/S. Park area is kind of on the edge of that. I'm not closely familiar with that neighborhood, or at least not as much so as I am with a lot of the east side, and it certainly could be just fine. I'd just check it out carefully first, and would recommend against renting there sight-unseen.

I'm just following up on this post - I can't believe it's been about a month since I last commented...

First, thank you all that commented before. It did help.

The wife an I had a wonderful time in Madison over the long holiday weekend. Even as we were driving into town we just looked at each other and gave that sideways "yeah" look. It's certainly a beautiful city and the scale of things, in contrast to Houston, will take some getting used to.

We did find a place to buy in the Eken Park neighborhood. A nice little house that will suit us and our pups nicely. We are both looking forward to the move with gleeful anticipation.

We're big neighborhood-bar people. It looks like the closest is Dexter's Pub. Anybody have thoughts on the quality of booze and clientele? I was happy to see so many of those little divey-bars around town.

Thanks!

Never been to Dexter's. But you'll need to check out Mickey's some day. Admittedly it's a bit of a hike from Eken Park -- probably 20 minutes or so on foot -- but it's the coolest hangout dive in the city. It's practically an institution. They used to do live Celtic jam sessions on Wednesday nights, I don't know if they're doing that any more.
