Looking at a vacation to Unity area and curious about camps at Unity Pond. Will be out for a least a week and am looking for suggestions for locations to stay and then possible day trips to places once there. How is the weather there this time of year? Is the lake warm enough to swim in?
What are must see things to do and see once there? Also what restaraunts are worth visiting in the area, breakfast lunch or dinner.

Thanks for the help

The weather is great and swimming will be fine now that the ponds and lakes have warmed some. I have never fished Unity Pond, but it's a good size pond about 3 miles long.

the lake is definitely warm enough to swim in-

south of unity (rte 220) you can take to rte 3 and go to lake st george state park- another good place to swim or fish-headin east on rte 3 you can drive right into belfast a nice coastal town (or pick up 137 east from 220)

On the way toward Bethel stop in Skowhegan off Rt. 2 and visit the New Balance Shoe outlet. Great bargains; American made and they Fit! Near Bethel take 2 hours and drive to the top of Grafton Notch State Park. You'll see Screw Auger Falls and you can cool off under the falls if it's hot.

Not sure how Unity pond is now but I know when I worked in Unity many people called it Unity $hi! Pit...not sure exactly why it had such a bad name and this was 8+ years ago.

Hopefully it's changed!

I think you posted a similar thread on June 20. I seem to remember that most of the rentals in that area had already been taken for late July/early August. Did you find a rental? You could drive to Waterville and eat at Governor's Restaurant. Belfast would be a nice day trip. If you like auctions, there's one in Burnham on Sunday mornings. Moosepoint State Park, Rt. 1, Searsport, Maine--we love it there.

Thanks"girl", we did find a place close to Unity finally! The location is central to where our parties will meet up. Been several years since we have been back East and are really looking forward to it. Thanks for the trip ideas so far. I didn't know we made shoes still in this country. Any other ideas will be appreciated. Is Sonys pizza, Big G's and Smiley's Ice cream still doing there thing???? What is the best stop for lobster rolls and clam basets in this area???? Oh well, see you soon!!
