I've already had one Thanksgiving feast this fall, but will be able to indulge yet again thanks to an American wife who has made it her priority to thin out the ranks of the turkey population.

I am thankful that when my dog McKenzie got up to the counter, she only ate 1/8th of the sweet potato casserole before I caught her. She is looking pretty shamefaced about now.

BAD doggie! I have been lucky.. I had 19 quick breads and dozens of cookies cooling on the counter, and a BIG doggie whose head is counter-high. When I moved the breads to the table to make room, she came to look but when I told her no, go lie down, she did and paid them no more mind.

But then she might have been full of kibble that had been flavored with the leftover turkey giblet broth...

Sorry the tofurky didn't work out. Did you splurge on turkey? I tried just to appease my mom, but one bite and I was done. The fleshy flavor just turns my tummy. But I had LOTS of dressing and gravy and everything else.

We had a great time, visited a lot, played Spades with my mom and step-dad, got beaten (which is rare!) and ended the day with a belly ache and a smile. It was nice.

You might want to fight off the urge to experiment with TurDucHen as the centerpiece of your Christmas extravaganza as well.
