I rode from Sacramento, Ca. to Dover Foxcroft, Me. and back in June/July of '06. I put 8700 miles on my bike because I had a meeting in Phoenix (119 degrees) on the way back. I rode 12 of the 30 days I was gone averaging 700 mile days in 100 degree heat. My last day before getting to Maine, I rode from Akron, Oh. to Dover. It was a 930 mile day. I crossed the George Washington Bridge at 6:00 pm and just kept on going and got to Dover at 2:30 am the next day. One morning I woke up to the weather channel telling me it was over 95 degrees in 45 states the previous day. I think I drank more water than the bike took gas.

Not the ideal motorcycling trip but I had to get home to Dover and didn't want to waste much time. When I pulled into the old family homestead at 2:30 in the morning, pulling in the driveway, my headlights fixed on a deer eating in the garden. I scared it off.

I would like to have taken more time to stop and smell the roses, especially in and around Maine, but will have more time to do that when I retire back to Maine in a few years.

And Happygolucky, Nebraska is beautiful. I did notice one thing that sticks with me. I think I passed a corn field that went on for about 600 miles through 3 states.

Wow, and I thought it was tiring doing 600 mile days in August!
