WARNING: Get out your tissue box. This one will induce spontaneous weeping. But in a good way.

i was pleased to read the piece about little lucien....as an exorter in florida i have dealt with haiti for 31 years now and know the haitien people very well....we have all heard about the poverty in haiti which unfortunately is true...however it isnt hard to find haitien people smiling and laughing across the financial spectrum...they are the most gentile, non agressive people you will ever meet...from time to time they get pushed against the wall mostly for food pricing and make a stand but these incidents are few & far between....of course there is your 'radical' element as with any country but with the majority of poor one would expect these people would join these radical groups which isnt at all true....if it were then there would be millions rioting....instead these people with their passive nature rather eak out a living for themselves.....there are many many charitable origanizations ranging from the big i.e. care,usaid,u.n. and large church groups who offer assistance to the haitien people...there are also very small people who just work in one villiage and make life a bit better for that village with schools for the children, food & health care....i know first hand of several of these small people who are making a difference and each & every dollar that is donated goes right to the people.....there are no ''administrative'' costs....it is all for the people....and the great people who donate their time & expertise to these villages live among the people....they are truly caring, giving people....
that is my knowledge of the people of haiti as i have seen and come to know.
best
jim
