Am perhaps an 11th generation Mainer. Thinking seriously about returning home. But, to where? See me profile. What do you think is a good match for me and a home in Maine? Originally from Central Maine summers in mid-coast. What to do, what to do? Where can I afford to live? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Welcome to the forum rfield!

I think a lot will depend on your circumstances, especially your financial picture. Will you need to find employment, or do you telecommute or are retired? Are you looking for a small town feel or a city feel? For city with a home town feeling, I'm partial to Bangor. Ellsworth would also be nice. Are you hoping to be directly on the coast?

Good luck with your research! When will you be planning a visit?

Looking at your profile, I would think the Portland area with all it has culturally to offer you. There are plenty of neighborhoods in all prices. You can be just outside the metro or within. The prices are competetive right now, so it is a great time for a move if that is what you want. It looks like you have done some serious travelling and being close to Portland awards you the opportunity to travel to the highway or airport or train within close miles. I am of course partial to the Sebago Lake area since that is where I live.
Good luck with your search.

Default Thanks for feedback

I am thinking that it must be Portland area. Although there are some real cultural differences between southern Maine, central Maine, and Mid-coast. When I grew up Portland was almost Boston!

How about Belfast?

Good hospital, continuing ed courses at the beautiful Hutchinson UM extension center and a thriving, if not aging, crunchy granola feel! Also Chases Daily is the best vegetarian restaurant by far
