Has the big drug problem facing much of Washington County affected Eastport much?

Mark, I really can't answer that, I'm an old lady and I don't pay much attention to that sort of thing. Someone else with children may know more than I.

I don't know either. I've never been to Eastport, and I only skirted the edge of Washington County once. I'm going on two sources. One, a guy I know who grew up in Washington County, who tells me it is now the drug-smuggling capital of the Northeast. And two, this article: As Drug Use Drops in Big Cities, Small Towns Confront Upsurge - New York Times

I was hoping some locals might be able to confirm or deny.

Default Problems

Eastport, as does every other city, has a "drug" problem-but coming from a large city it seems soooo much less than what I was used to. So, yes it exists but it is not something I worry too much about and I always feel safe in Eastport. I can tell you that there are far less drugs in the schools here than I experienced teaching in Los Angeles, Ca and Austin, Tx. Eastport is a lovely place to live, the only trouble may be finding a job and if you are creative-open-that is not too much of a problem.

Re Mark S: The real reason Eastport is the drug smuggling capital of the Northeast is because the people are so good at covering it up. Instead of big fancy rides the average age of most cars is at least 10 years old. We don't wear a lot of flashy clothes and the bling is very low-key. Most of the houses are common looking, but inside they are really are pimped out. Of course at least half the people here are in the witness protection program so that adds to the discreetness of the population. You would think there's just a bunch of people enjoying the place they live, but really almost everyone you see at the IGA is one of the biggest drug dealers in New England. The reason so few people get arrested and there has only been two homicides in all of Washington county in the last 5 years is because each citizen pays half a million a year to Dick Cheney in protection money to keep everything quiet.

What city, town, or even community does not have some kind of drug problem? Drugs are an endemic plague to society. As long as people want drugs, they will be available. Eastport is no worse or better than any other area.

Is your water heater electric? That would easily explain the difference.

Geez, willb! Now that you've let the secret out, Eastport will be flooded with people looking for their long-lost witness protection buddies. Instead of saying, "Nice weather today," the neighbors will be asking, "Who'd you testify against?"
