I feel like a burden has been lifted...there's a light at the end of the tunnel. I just saw the first "heavy loads limited" posting in my area. Spring is coming. Although so is the massive car repair bill resulting from the HUGE pothole I just hit!

Walking around Old Port today is like walking around a river.

It's awful. my feet are soaked. I'm liking the warmth, but I'm not so ready to get excited for spring yet. Sunday is supposed to bury us in snow yet again and we still have March which can get NASTY. Sorry for being Buzz Killington, but I can't get excited QUITE yet.

DH pulled the refrigerator out to plug into generator during Monday's power outage and I got to see all those dust bunnys behind there. I really enjoyed the bit of early spring cleaning I got to do...I know, I must be sick...

If you start feeling sad you're welcome to find joy behind my fridge!

48 degrees today.

Sheets of ice are sliding off our roof.

Lots of slush everywhere.

The ducks were nervous in the barn last night. It had just gotten dark and I hadn't yet sent a dog out to put the stragglers in before I closed the barn door. Seb's hair stood up, he paced and barked but I couldn't find anything. No eyes on the ground or in the trees. He was insistent so I let Scooter out. Same thing - alert to something but couldn't find it. I made them sit quietly and listened. Ahhhh "Who? Who cooks for you?"

It's the beginning of the barred owl breeding season. They won't start breeding for another month but courtship has started. Bark growl bark bark bark - so I put the dogs in the house. The owl was just out of sight in a tree near the barn. It called again and was answered by another barred. I think that one was close to a friend's house, three-quarters of a mile south. I see an owl sitting on a phone pole near her barn now and then. I listened for a few minutes. A third barred owl called from the north.

My tom turkeys are harassing the hens and the ducks are starting to flirt with the drakes. Bald eagles have started their spring rituals.
