Kids...we don't have Shop N Save anymore.. It's called Hannaford now.
I think it depends on what area you are looking at. Likely there are some chains that have stores in Southern Maine that don't have stores in other areas of Maine. I only have a Hannaford and a Shaws within an hours drive, and add to that a Super WalMart and a Sams Club if I want to drive an hour and a half to Bangor.

Hannafo-d for me (the "r" fell off the sign a couple of years ago...it was fixed, but not before the "new" name stuck with me...and I still lapse & call it Shop-n-Save). Shaw's is beyond the stoplight, and I'm lazy, I guess.

BUT...what I was going to add is that it seems like food co-ops are prevalent enough. Maybe more expensive, but another alternative, anyhow.

Sams Club should be a good alternative to Costco........we have both here(NC), there's not too much difference.

Hannaford's, Tozier's, and Wally World in the mid-coast area... plus the co-op in Belfast.

In Bangor Hannaford's is still referred to as "Doug's" by many of the locals that have been around for a while. Was Doug's Shop N Save many years ago. Old habits are hard to break!

Yeah, I did for the first few years... or maybe the first decade after they changed it, but I've got it now.
