When I bought our place back in 83 it needed to be bush hogged and I didn't own one yet. A local farmer loaned me his tractor and bush hog. I offered to rent it, but he would not hear of it. When I was done I washed the tractor, greased it and stopped at the general store to fill it with fuel. When I drove it into the farmer's yard he was amazed. He praised me for greasing it and told me to come back and borrow it again next year.

Great story NMLM. He was a wise old Yankee. Thrifty and helpful all in one fell swoop.

What wonderful stories of wonderful people

Sounds just like what happened to us. I asked the woman we are renting from if we could do our change of address the Sat. before we moved in. She e-mailed back said that she would stop by the house to collect our mail and since she had to be out of town when we arrive, she told us where the key would be and just begin un-packing and enjoy. We are not even their yet but already feel at home.

Can't wait to return the favor one day...Maine=kindness with a true heart

DH and I have had similar experiences in our travels around Maine. Such genuine kindness. Can't help but smile when reading these stories. As they saying goes: "Maine - The way life should be."

Since putting the word out that we are moving to Maine, I have had people offer us places to stay, pass out DH's resume, and help us job search. In all of the places I've lived and all my travels, I have not seen such genuine kindness, helpfulness and selflessness as I have of those in Maine! I love Maine and it's people!
