Long Islanders fit in well in MontgomeryCounty, especially Potomac and Bethesda.

Kind of a sweeping generalization don't you think? Not everyone from Long Island is the same.

What is your thoughts on Columbia, MD? I have read alot of good things about the area as far as crime and schools and it seems to be nice. If this is a solid area, I would even be willing to consider a Townhome if it gets me into the nicer area.

It depends on what you like. Columbia is a giant planned suburb, but different from LI suburbs. It doesn't have grid streets or a ton of mom-and-pop shops in older downtowns like you have along Montauk Hwy in the south shore villages (like Babylon, Bay Shore, Sayville, etc). Everything is from the 1960s or newer.

It's not for me, but I understand why people do like it. Low crime (check some other posts about this, I think some areas might be troublesome), good schools, many consider the commute to Baltimore or DC to be pretty easy. They have a mall there and all the necessary shops. I think there are some posters who live there so they can be more of a help.

The commute to New Carrollton, if done during regular hours, might be very congested.
