i was convicted of a felony and was looking to move out of virginia.. there are a lot of places that wont rent to someone convicted of a felony in my area and since i am in a new relationship and we want to get a place together it makes it kind of difficult so i was wondering if people could help me with areas/counties that are more open to renting to someone convicted of a felony( 2+ years ago now.. ) and it can be any state... thanks for the help

Your significant other may be able to get a place anywhere, and you live with her/him. Other than that, maybe closer to Baltimore/Washington DC where there is a more diverse population?

I would think it would depend on the charge, There's a ton a ways to become a felon through a non-violent crime. You could probably explain the situation unless you got convicted of something real bad. Also if you get a credit monitoring / identity monitoring service like LifeLock, it makes it ALOT harder for people to get info on you, credit or criminal. Keep in mind this would not stop them from obtaining your criminal history from a "actual" federal or local search BUT all the apartment complexes usually use 3rd party internet based systems since it's cheaper witch are easy to get around. When I rented my current apartment a couple years ago I got 2 calls from LifeLock 1 when they tried to check my credit, 1 when they checked my criminal. I denied them access to both. Still got the apt. Good Luck. An easy way to tell is ask how long it takes to get you approved, if its less than a couple days, there using 3rd party stuff.
