I was wondering how the rush-hour traffic tends to be along this road (MD-28) heading west-east in the morning and east-west in the evenings. I will be working in the shady grove area of rockville and I'm looking at places along MD-28 out towards frederick county. Thanks in advance for any information on the subject.

Hi. It will be not great. Any delays on Rt. 355 or Rt. 270 and you will be up a creek as Rt.28 all the way into Frederick (it becomes Rt. 85 at some point) will be the only other way north.
That being said, I think it is less traveled than Rt. 355, which is the main Rt.270 alternate route, so it is the lesser of two evils.
Generally, commutes within the entire metropolitan Washington DC area stink, no matter what way you are going - with the possible exception of going north when the bulk of everyone from here to Pa are coming south into DC.
Good luck!

Thanks for both posts.. Yeah I figured that MD-28 is quite a bit south of both I-270 and Rt. 355 and goes through the boonies so I thought it would be less traveled. Of course if both I-270 and Rt. 355 have problems then your probably screwed if you have to go anywhere outside walking distance of your destination. Do you happen to know the speed limit? Trying to get an idea of the driving time between ~Point of Rocks to Shady grove area? Thanks again...

honestly, I can't remember what the speed limit is but you'll be keeping up with traffic during commuting times (i.e., speeding along as fast as everyone else is). It does slow when you go through the little town of Dickerson, where the MARC station is. You need to allow an hour to get to work, minimum.

I live out towards point of rocks and have commuted into various places in the 270 corridor. 28 is a nice alternative if you live out this way. Not a whole lot of traffic, and a commute from 28 to point of rocks may take you 45 minutes. you at least have something to look at instead of someone's bumper. It clogs up a bit where 28 cuts down to 1 lane going back up towards Frederick. Other than that, it's not bad once you leave the germantown area.
