I got a job offer in Largo, MD and will be relocating from Virginia Beach, VA. I am looking for some areas to consider moving to. I would like a one or two bedroom that is no more than $1200. I am open to Northern VA, MD or DC. I don't have a problem with a 45 minutes to an hour commute, as it's somethting that i am already accustomed to. I am looking for some safe neighborhoods for a single female to move. Any and all suggestions are needed to help me narrow my search down. Thanks in advance!

With that price it may be difficult to have a lot of good options. Just off the top of my head, Ivy Club Apartments and Cameron Pointe Apartments in Landover (they both are next to each other on the other side of FedEx Field) are good places to start. Both are gated, literally 5 minutes from Largo and are safe. I know for certain that Ivy Club has a security system built into each unit but I think you have to pay a premium to use it.

Thank you. I have been looking online and realized that I'm going to have to increase my as apartment budget.Landover seems like a nice area, and it will be close to my new job.

To be quite honest with you, Landover really isn't the safest area, but the gated nature of the apartments really separates you from the surroundings. I stayed in Ivy Club years ago and always felt safe. My wife stayed up there by herself before we got married and she said the same about it. I've heard Cameron Pointe is pretty safe too. The good news though is you won't be far from Largo which is a nice area in itself and there are a lot of nice shopping centers around there that won't be far away from those apartment complexes.

I would recommend looking at Bowie, MD. Nice area, not a terrible commute to Largo, etc. I'm sure you could find something within your price range as well. I'd recommend using Craiglist to augment your apartment search.

They completely remodeled it. I didn't even know it until one of my friends told me how he used to live there when it was. If you visit it, I doubt you will even see any resemblance of the projects. They are even selective about who lives there. A lot of young professionals, especially school teachers live there.
