I was checking Realtor.com for rentals in Odenton and Crofton. Throughout central Maryland the rental prices of townhouses are about $1800/month. Single-family houses are normally $2000-2400. We have a house in Silver Spring we rent out for $2200.
If you have to move, I'd suggest looking further out, like Mt. Airy and Carroll County for decent schools. I don't recommend the cheaper areas in Anne Arundel or Baltimore County.

Crofton is definitely going to cost over $2000 and that's probably going to get you a townhouse. There aren't many single family homes for rent in Crofton. They go pretty quickly when they do become available.

What about Baltimore? Any part of it that is safe? Annapolis? Hyattsville? really, anything within a 30min drive. Places like this I have just found have given me some hope that we may be able to find something

I would not suggest Baltimore or Baltimore County because of the schools. Just because you could afford to live there does not mean you *should*.
Each of the townhouses you looked at would be OK if you are satisfied with the schools.
