Today's shooting shows that as long as we ignore crime in certain (read: urban) areas, there will be no such thing as "safe" communities.

I think that no place is absolutely safe any more.

WBAL is describing the shooting, after the Howard Co. Chief's press conference, as domestic related.

What that means is the apparent shooter just decided to do it there rather than at home or in the garage or on a pleasant afternoon drive in the country.

Many shootings/killings occur in areas that aren't urban. Columbine was in a wealthy suburb. The shooting at the Arapahoe Colorado high school was not an urban area.

Default Absolutely tragic and a shame

I used to live in Columbia back in the mid to late 80s, and visited the Columbia Mall many times. I love that area. Absolutely tragic.

My heart goes out to the families of those who died because of this senseless act.

I have been in that area and at that mall with my family. I can't imagine being in that mall and having my children witnessing that. Very sad for the victims of course but also traumatizing for those kids who had to go through that.

Odd, didn't Maryland Democrats just pass a whole bunch of laws that were supposed to stop this kind of thing?
