Weve been looking for awhile, someone at work recommended Grafton, drove around the other day and loved it.. Beautiful common, nice houses, close to rt 9 shopping and they are building a new HS. Seemed easy ride to 495. Anyone from Grafton??
Not from there, but I don't think it's that easy a drive to I-495. (I live next to 495 and had to take a sick dog to Tufts Cummings Animal Hospital in Grafton - a magnificent facility, by the way) but I remember a pretty long drive and it wasn't 495.
Hi,
I am from Grafton. It is a great town, and there has been huge growth in the last 10 - 15 years or so. The town has invested in new police, fire, elementary and construction is underway for a new High School. The other schools are on the older side, but the town is redisricting the who town, so even though they are older, there should be plenty of space for everyone. Space has been a problem that has plagued the town and will be resolved this year. The town has begun the process for a new Library. Millbury has a beautiful library, so I tend to go there for now. People are generally welcoming and friendly. If you have any specific questions that I can answer, let me know.
It is actually a pretty easy drive to 495 depending on where you live (if you don't mind a 15 - 20 minute drive). In South Grafton, you can cut through Upton. A lot of people who work at EMC live around there. It is probably about 10 - 15 minutes to the exit in Hopkinton / Ashland. From North Grafton by Shrewsbury, you are probably about 15 minutes to the interchange off 290, and if you are on the Westborough line it is probably about 15 minutes via rte 9 - avoid the rotary in Westborough Center. Grafton Center may be slightly longer, but it is a nice location to live in the town, near the common, schools, supermarket, shoppes at Millbury and everything, really...
I agree, Tufts is a magnificant facility. We sometimes walk around there and look at the animals. People come from all around the area to walk their dogs and let them run around, although people weren't picking up, so it was suspended for a time and I am not sure what the status is now...We have used their emergency and specialist services for our pets. They are very expensive for routine care, but you can find a lot of local vets that have studied there, if that applies to you. They do some community outreach and have an open house in the fall which is popular with the kids.
Thanks for the info! We like the town and home prices are more reasonable than some surrounding towns. Some very nice houses under $500k in nice cul de sac neighborhoods.
Regarding the Tufts Small Animal Hospital, one of the vets that cares for my dogs was a new grad, and one of my dogs (11-year-old mutt) had something wrong that absolutely stumped the other two (older) vets. The young one said she'd seen a rare syndrome twice while in school, and my dog looked like that. She arranged an admission to Tufts, where he spent a very expensive and professional four days for treatment and diagnosis. So, yes, it was expensive, but it was for tertiary care. They were marvelous- stayed in good contact, kept me well informed, took great care of Kiko. Unfortunately, he had a very rare form of liver failure and there was nothing to be done after the diagnosis. I had him home for the weekend and then took him for euthansia at the regular vet.
I am glad you got a diagnosis so you knew what you were dealing with and had a good experiencd there.
One of our cats, who was young at the time, was being treated for Hypertrophic Cardiomiopathy, which has a dismal outlook in both animals and humans. After treating him for a while and paying for expensive echocardiograms every few months, I took my cat to a cardiac specialist at Tufts for a cardiac consult (figured I would get a second opinion if a human was diagnosed with a terminal disease) and they did not find any evidence of heart disease and if he did have the HCM diagnosis, his treatment plan was not appropriate - he was on the wrong meds!!!! Sometimes, you don't know your vet is bad until you go through an an emergency situation together....We spent a lot of money at that visit, but nothing compared to what I would have paid for continuing care for a healthy cat!!!!
What about the availability of rental housing? I'm looking to move out of Boston.
Message me. I'll be renting my
Home out soon.
