I am going to be moving to the east coast soon and would like to know if there is a "tech" area around Boston suburbs, with clusters of tech companies.
I do have a position currently which I am be able to telecommute to. However, given the reality of the economy and outsourcing, I don't want to end up in a place with no prospects ...
I am mid to senior level IT professional single mom to a 3 year old.
Schools are super-important and so is having a neighborhood with kids.
I would probably stay in a rental for a while, till I get a feel for the place, but intend to buy a home and stay put.
thanks much!

In Boston (as well as in surrounding areas) you have many IT jobs. You can stay in suburbs and commute to boston. Regarding best schools Acton, lexinghton, sudbury, westborough are good. Hope this helps!

any town on Route 128 (Thats what we call interstate 95). The northern part of Interstate 495 is attracting a lot of IT firms that are sick of Boston area traffic and rent.

Anything along 128 & Cambridge are top IT prospects. I'd hit Craigslist for your prospects for decent IT jobs out there. The infrastructure of MA is much much better than the rest of the country with a better than average mass transportation system. As long as your on the same side of the city as your job, you should be fine in commuting.
