Does anyone have experiences with these commutes? Dh works in Burlington, we live in Marblehead but are considering moving to the West Newbury area.
Thanks in advance!

I'll bump this for you. I don't know but I would imagine 3/495 has gotta move faster than 95/114 but it is also much longer 39.2 mi to West Newbury as opposed to 23 miles from Burlington to Marblehead. So it depends upon how slow is slow on 114.

I am familiar with these commutes.

Commuting from West Newbury to Burlington you would take 95 South from Route 113 or Scotland Road to 128 South, you would not take 495 or 114.

IMO, Rte 95 to 128 would be the much better option, no real issues on 95 til you approach the 95/128 merge (which I would imagine your spouse is already doing). 495 is a mess, and while I think 495 to Rte 3 would be fewer miles, the actual commute time would be significantly longer.

Thanks everyone I wasn't clear in my original post. I'm trying to get my head around the fact that the Marblehead -> Burlington commute would = the West Newbury/Newburyport commute to Burlington (due to that endless 114 haul). It seems like the Newburyport area is much farther away than Marblehead, but it's really not so! Does that make sense?

It does make sense (I was wondering why you were bringing up 114 from Newburyport ) You couldn't pay me enough to trek Rte 114 every day, from either side of 128. I don't which would be worse--going through the Salem stretch, or along through Middleton... ewwww either way. Anyway, Newburyport IS quite a bit further, but I'd bet if you checked it on an online map (bing, google, etc) you'd find the minutes are very similar.

I understand your question better now.

I agree with your assumption that although West Newbury to Burlington (exit 56 or 57 on 95 to 128) may be longer miles-wise than Marblehead to Burlington, the actual commuting time will be similar or even less.

I lived in Byfield (exit 55) for 6 years (2000-2006) and commuted to Boston. For the past 6 years I have lived in Lynnfield (exit 41) and have commuted to Boston, Merrimack, NH, and now Billerica. The real traffic congestion is from the 128/93 split to south on 128 and your husband is already used to that.

Not sure how long you have lived in Marblehead, but my sister-in-law has been there 20 years and it's always been my experience that it is quicker to go thru Peabody via Centennial Park to get to 128 than to take 114 thru Salem.
