That is probably pretty accurate. I used to make the drive from Fitchburg to Newburyport, and that was a little under an hour and a half.......assuming there was no traffic.

And with work hour traffic, does anyone know? I know that 95 is awful, but what about 495?

I asked my husband, who does a similar drive sometimes, he said expect about an hour and a half during normal commute times. 495 north should not be too bad unless it is a beach type day in the summer which could add to the time. Hope this helps!

Aren't you the poster who was asking about lively small towns, with a commute to Waltham for below $900?

Realistically 2 hours because the traffic will get thick around Lowell and 93. It is about 45 minutes between Acton and Andover, and you are adding miles on both ends of that.

He originally said two hours but revised it down to an hour and half. He has done it from Townsend to Danvers during work hours and he says that's a little over an hour and a half. Not quite the same but pretty close.

Yes I am. My husband's office has 2 branches and he's been working in Waltham but he could work in Shirley. So we were trying to see if him working in Shirley would solve our questions...

Ok, thank you for the information. I think it's gonna be too long for us :-(

If his workplace can be moved from Waltham to Shirley, this gives you more affordable options. You should check out downtown Groton. Groton is a pretty town of hills and valleys and historic homes, clean not gritty at all, has the Nashoba Rail Trail, some sophisticated eating places (casual fun pubs and eating places in next door Ayer too), a good health food store, friendly community involved people, an art gallery or two and town events.

Look for the Nines indie music festival coming to the area in August. And as Brightdoglover has already mentioned the Bull Run in Shirley has fun concerts and entertainment. Close-by Harvard MA has Fruitlands, one of the homes of the Alcotts, with more activities.
