Hi Everyone,

It looks like I will be relocating to the Cape from NYC metro area for work and I'm not sure where to settle. My office will be in Bourne and I'm not sure if I should live off the Cape or on. I'm single, in my early 30's and would like to be close to some fun activities (I have a love for Salsa dancing ). I am looking forward to all the benefits of living on the Cape but don't want to be "removed" from everything, especially in the winter.

I'd love an area that offers affordable rent and starter home options, is safe, and would be somewhat easy to run into people my age. A cute downtown/walkable area would be great. I would be returning back to NY/NJ often as well as traveling to Providence and Boston often.

I've never been to the Cape but am planning a visit in the next few weeks. I was told that it's similar to the North Fork of Long Island, which I love. I feel like I'm asking for too much in a living place but any insight would be GREATLY appreciated.

I'm not sure what your definition of "affordable" is (but coming from NY metro! I assume it's much higher than most) but I would suggest Falmouth near the downtown area. It is your best option for a commute to Bourne- I am also assuming your job is in Bourne, Capeside, not over the canal. Falmouth is a bustling, year round community. I spent a good deal of time in Falmouth this winter and was surprised just how busy it stays. Good luck!

I agree with Beachcomber that Falmouth is a nice town and a good choice if you will be working in Bourne. During the Summer the Bourne bridge over the canal can get backed up but it never seems to be as congested as the Sagamore bridge. You will get to know the back roads and best times to travel.
Falmouth is probably the second busiest town on the Cape in the off season next to Hyannis which is more like a city and being a city it comes with urban problems so you might not want to live there plus your commute would be longer.
The Cape is actually not that big so you can drive easily to experience the different towns, beaches, fun times, and nature.
The Cape has a lot to offer and like anywhere it is what you make it.

If you like the North Fork, you should like the Cape. However, the summertime traffic is much worse. My advice is to look for some place where you can commute to work without driving on Rt 6 or Rt 28 or any other main roads since they get pretty backed-up in the summer.
