Hello!

My wife and I, who currently rent in Roslindale, are in the beginning stages of looking to buy a house. She works near Back Bay and I teach in the Auburndale section of Newton. We have a good understanding of commute times south of Boston, but need some help with the commute from Melrose or Medford to Auburndale. I leave very early in the morning to I assume my morning commute would not be bad, but how about coming home?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Trevor

Driving from Auburndale to Medford or Melrose at any time is a jiggety joggety pain that doesn't ever get any shorter than 45ish minutes. That said, doing it at 330 will not be much worse than other parts of the day. The closer you get to 430 the worse off you'll be. You can either take rt.60, rt.2 or 93 to 95S all to Waltham and go from there. I routinely drove from Waltham to Medford to visit a friend and then she moved to Melrose, her husband commuted to Waltham FROM both places and neither of us could get it down faster than half an hour.

The closer you live to some highway the better it will be. I vote Melrose so you don't have to move when your kid is ready for school and your wife can take the Orange line from Oak Grove to Back Bay.

I just bought a house in medford hillside. Everything here is a 10 or 20 minute bike ride away..it's a great location, much better than melrose.
