We may be possibly relocating to Massachusetts, but only if we can find a place to live that would be conducive to a mini homestead. Chickens, large garden, fruit trees, maybe some other animals as my kids get bigger and are involved with 4h.

My husband would be working in Marlborough but is willing to travel about 45 minutes to 1 hour to get to work. He also flies frequently.

Any ideas of towns that I should look at?

We homeschool. Catholic Church within 30 minutes would be great to.

I don't know all of the towns in that region super well but I think you're ideally placed for what you're looking for - if he's working in Marlborough you can have your pick of towns outside of 495 (=cheaper and more land). That area has a lot of farms to begin with (along 117 is apple country), and since schools aren't an issue you can just pick based on affordability and personal preference. And even though there isn't the same density of Catholic churches you might find closer to Boston, you won't have a problem finding one within 30 minutes of you.

Off-hand I have friends and colleagues who have enjoyed living in Bolton, Clinton, and Lunenburg. Stow is beautiful with lots of farms but that might be a bit on the pricier side. Not sure, I'll let others chime in.

Welcome to MA!

Oh and here is the MA 4-H club directory - you'll want to look at Middlesex and Worcester counties. Locations of these may give you some ideas and if you phone someone may be able to offer advice:

I recommend looking in Littleton.

One of the yards I often drive by is full of roosters and hens.

Don't know anything about this church, but you could inquire.

Much gratitude for the ideas. We have the worst luck with relocation real estate agents

A lot of the more successful real estate agents won't take relocation files because of the large relocation fee an agent would have to pay to take on the client (think around 40-50% of the commission). The agent basically pays for your relocation benefits out of their pocket. If their schedule is already 100% full with clients they'll earn a full commission with, the attitude is basically "why bother?" So that leaves most people who are relocating with new agents and less skilled/successful agents.

It's not your luck. It's that the system is flawed. If the relocation companies and the companies that hire them didn't expect the agents to subsidize the moves so heavily then the people who are relocating would get a higher quality experience.

Oh makes sense...also why we have been shown new builds when clearly wouldn't meet our needs. If this move happens looks like I will be on my own to find a buyer agent. I have three very small kids, need to find something quickly without looking at absolutely everything!

I'm DMing you recommendations to a few realtors in the Acton/Littleton/Maynard/Stow and 495 areas that are excellent at zeroing in on what the buyer is looking for.
