We are moving to the Boston area soon, and want to send our younger to a public pre-K program (elder child will be in 2nd grade). For various reasons we want public pre-k. This seems only to be available in Cambridge or the BPS. In either city we will be at the mercy of a lottery for school placement. With that in mind, which would you go for?

If I had to pick I'd probably pick Cambridge.

Cambridge, although are you moving so soon that your kids need to start in the Fall? In that case, you cannot actually participate in the lottery since it happens in January. I think your children may simply be assigned to a school. I spoke with some people recently who just moved here with a pre-K aged child and they implied that they weren't given any choice.
