All the unattended lots use Pay By Phone and the honor boxes have been removed.

That's not 100% true.

Sharon for instance uses these horrible parking meter like devices that take credit cards but the keypad and card snipers routinely malfunction. The only "pay by phone" option there is a horrific mobile website that charges a surcharge. Instead of the way things work at a lot that uses pay by phone if you forget to use their clunky machine or mobile site they issue you a $30 parking ticket.

I think robr meant all the MBTA-owned lots that used to have honor boxes now use pay by phone parking and the honor boxes have been removed. There are still many town-owned lots that use meters or machines that spit out a ticket that you place on your dash.

Well there used to be honor boxes there as well.

Anyway the vast majority of stations use Pay by phone now and that is a huge improvement over the honor box.

The Sharon lot is town-owned, not MBTA-owned. I remember reading an article about this in the Globe some time back - it was very specific. It said all MBTA-owned lots that use the honor box will now have pay-by-phone.

That's what I meant - all MBTA owned lots that used honor boxes went to Pay By Phone.

Agreed. I remember one train pulling away from the Middleborough/Lakeville station as I scrambled to find my slot and shove my $4 in the honor box a few years back. A similar situation occurred this year except that I punched in my space number and credit card number into my phone as the train rolled out of the station. It's my fault for not allowing more time, but sometimes stuff happens. Pay by phone for parking (and meters in the city) is a dream.
