I do very much appreciate those that have gave me sound advice and that has helped us narrow our such area down and for that thank you...

(I look in Salem that price range, too, but I am looking for smaller places.) Gloucester might have larger homes/condos in that price range.

Not everyone is a realtor, or thinks like a Mass realtor: "the middle class need not apply."
God help Mass if the middle class really does leave, which is something Mass fully deserves at this point.

People should help this lady out, if they have ideas.

There's an old and unlikeable tradition of "Irish need not apply" in Mass. It has its contemporary counterparts, evidently.
Thank you so much, Yes I did not put the question out there to be bugged and told I was making a bad decision and to not take the better job, it bugs me. I have been putting allot of thought and time into taking this step and I wish our society was not so intent on putting people down, I am moving with another family. (not moving, moving but we are making the move together, and it is helping on cost) I DO NOT WANT A CONDO... lol we are looking for a duplex or multi family home. and yes I would love a fixer upper I am not afraid of putting in the work.... thank you again and we will look into Gloucester....

Someone in one of the local NE state got away with that as a Vanity plate. Dunno how. Got a pic of that somewhere.

Not really. M*ssholes are people, especially behind the wheel, that are aggressive and rude for no particular reason.

What you're running in to with some of the responses you've objected to are people that are being frank and not necessarily as encouraging as you'd like. This is definitely more typical of Massachusetts but I wouldn't quite classify it as M*sshole.

I'm not familiar with Arizona, but in the South if you're planning on doing something that someone things isn't a great idea, they won't say so, even if asked. They'll defer and be as positive as can be to your face about it. I'm sure you've heard the phrase "well bless your heart". Of course behind your back they'll go on about such-and-such being as stupid as a bag of nails, but definitely not to your face.

Around here, to be perfectly honest, most people will ignore you. If you ask someone a specific question, though, they will likely give you an honest answer. You've gotten a lot of honest answers that have been pretty negative and, for the most part, they were genuine. That doesn't mean that they're right, as there will often be a pretty wide opinion on most things, but they're being blunt in the hopes of being helpful. it is expensive here and you will need to have a pretty big bump in salary to have the same standard of living as you did in Arizona.

A M*sshole, on the other hand, might something mean for the sake of being mean. Or give an unfriendly opinion on something unasked for. Also they would pass you on the right, cut you off, and then honk at an old lady crossing the street.

I think Salem will work well for you. While there are plenty of 'sketchy' types around there is no violent crime. Many single moms in Salem and friends say good support network. You'll find many single family homes in 300-400k range. Check realtor dot com for rentals. You may want to contact Pam McKee and see if she has any rentals coming soon. She's a popular real estate agent in Salem and is also very nice. You may want to check the neighboring town of Peabody.
