Thanks everyone for the advice on this. Looked into all the suggestions and decided to go cold turkey on the landline. Since so few people contact me on it other than spam callers, just discontinued the service.

I think that's a good idea too!

I have a landline for work because if the internet goes out, I still need a line to take conf calls- i'd be in trouble without both internet and phone. I'd love to cut that landline bill!

You can't port a landline to Google (last I knew), thus the extra step of porting it to a cell first. Nobody knows my Google Voice number, and even if they did they would call my normal cell #.

I did exactly this a while back. Works flawlessly connected to the phone line in the house. I do pay the small yearly fee for an E-911 service since we leave the kids with babysitters from time to time and they may not remember our address in an emergency.
