You say this like it's earth shattering news. Brockton has been majority black for decades.

Good, maybe then we will see a day when the majority of NB isn't "Disabled".

I made the mistake 4 years ago of going to the Social Security office in New Bedford. I was taking over my mother's affairs and SSA/Medicare don't recognize power of attorney. The waiting room was jammed and I didn't see anyone even remotely close to retirement age. Everybody was trying to scam SSDI to get free money.

In Rutland, VT, I walked in and there was one geezer ahead of me. I think I waited 2 minutes. I'll never again go to an urban Social Security office.

In New Bedford, other than Cape Verdian, you see mostly brown for new immigration, not black. At the Market Basket, you hear Spanish now instead of Portuguese most of the time.

The current census data says 7.3% black. That aligns with my personal experience where southeast Asian and hispanic/latino are the two dominant ethnic groups.

Oh really?

Last time I was up in Lowell there was a caravan of black individuals heading up from a hood in Chelsea.

I mean I guess, still black... and many are from Cape Verde which tends to place almost no value on educaaion-ditto for DR and PR though not so much as CV. It depends on the island, and the family etc.. Certainly not gentrifiers though.
