To anyone who went there in the early days, was it always so big? Did it grow?

I just always found it odd that it was a restaurant with MANY different dining rooms (Kansas City, Souix City, etc), upstairs and down. Seems optimistic if they opened the place up with that much capacity. I know towards the end it was empty, but on day 1 were they filling that place up?

Haha, forgot about that! It would have been great if all those old corny landmarks could have been incorporated into a giant minature golf course.

Torn down a few years ago

Palace was a staple growing up. Friday night would roll around and everyone was talking about heading to the "Bahama Beach Club"

Originally it was a 125 seat bar. Giuffrida added on to it over the years until it became the 1300 seat meat mecca we all remember. At it's peak, it was serving 2.4 million meals annually.

Thanks for the update on the cactus! I didn't realize it changed THAT much! Damn!

I had forgotten about the big ship! Is that gone now?

The leaning tower! I had seen that a few times on bus trip to and from Portland, ME! Concord Coach Lines often went I-93/US Route 1 (pre-construction Tobin Bridge)/I-95 from Peabody northward.

IMHO, Avalon would've been happier getting rid of the cactus but in deference to the community, they sucked it up and kept it.

The big ship is gone - it was torn down 2 years ago. It was replaced by more retail space.
