https://www.boston.com/news/business...-consolidation

I don't know if this means they are leaving Massachusetts entirely, or just Andover, but they are saying they are looking to consolidate space. The real estate near the Broadway Red Line stop would be worth a fortune so I can't blame them for selling. Could also develop new office space on the premises there and lease out extra space. Does mean that any manufacturing jobs they have here are going to be toast regardless of where they end up.

Financially, it makes sense to move the manufacturing out of South Boston. The land is worth hundreds of millions of dollars.

They could easily find a new place in MA for the manufacturing and warehousing needed and keep "corporate" in Boston in one of the towers.

I thought it was hilarious that Proctor and Gamble's spokeswoman talked about "cutting-edge facilities and capabilities". I wonder if that was said with a grin. Or do the corporate flacks actually know what the Gillette branch makes?

It would make sense to me to sell the Boston property and move everything to Andover, but that is just me.

It seems like there must be some ulterior motive for announcing the “assessment” before any concrete plan is in place. Because I’m sure all they’ve done is scare the **** out of all the employees at BOTH facilities and get them to work on their resumes.

The Boston site would be a terrific location for a Revs stadium.

It's pretty much only going to be going to a developer. P&G might get a billion.

Let's do the math here. Proctor & Gamble sold a 6.5 acre parking lot for $218 million. It's a 34 acre parcel. You're going to put a low quality minor league soccer stadium on a $1+ billion parcel. If it were Liverpool, sure. You could sell out 100,000 seats for 25+ fixtures at a couple hundred dollars per seat. I used to have Revs season tickets. They can't even fill the lower bowl at Gillette with free parking and cheap tickets priced at PawSox level. Sports stadiums in metro Boston are built with private money. You can't possibly make a business case for it.
