Looking at Vaxfinder... I wonder how many people are cheating. Hopefully this will be enough to get the Feds to send a ton.

My dad got his shot over the weekend and my mom got hers the weekend before that. I was told by different people that I should go with my dad because they would likely just give me my shot for being there. Not sure how true this is but I didn't go with him.

Yes, if either of them was over 75, you could have co-registered and received your shot, had you accompanied them.

After a cumulative 8 hours or so of refreshing, I got an appointment for this weekend! Sure I have to go out to Springfield, but I finally see the light at the end of the tunnel.

It's just frustrating how difficult our system is. I am tech savvy, read and click quickly, and know how to save everything in autofill. And yet I probably partially filled out registration forms at least 50 times over the last few days. We have some of the greatest tech minds in the country and we couldn't have a system that reserves a spot while you fill out the information with some kind of time limit? The only reason I got my spot is because I knew to set an alert on a Twitter account that announced appointment openings and was able to jump on it within seconds of the tweet. I got one of the 40+ slots - my direct report, who started to sign up within moments of me - did not.

More vaccines will certainly help matters, but these systems have a user experience as if they were slammed together by someone on a Monster bender last night.

My mother was able to call a certain hospital at a special number her friend gave her, got right in at a local clinic next week. Quite a few of these word of mouth things floating around.

Yes, it’s designed to frustrate and waste time. It would make much more sense if it at least functioned like a ticket site where you hold the appointment if you are the first to click when it is available, and then have 10 min or so to complete the registration information.

Didn't some engineer/mom on maternity leave from arlington figure out a better system to reserve appts?

That system helps you find all available slots in one place rather than seeing whether the mega-sites are available on the Mass Vax site and then clicking dozes of "more details" links to get more information. It helps, to be sure, but doesn't fix the problem of it being a mad rush to get a slot when one opens where folks can waste a whole lot of time.

I'm helping a few older folks in my life find vaccines in a few different states, and Massachusetts seems unreasonably hard.

CT just accounted their schedule for expanded vaccine roll out:

- March 1: expands to ages 55-64
- March 22: expands to ages 45-54
- April 12: expands to ages 35-44
- May 3: expands to ages 16-34

Ummm, MA not looking good in comparison
