Now, studies have shown voter suppression do have an impact. One party is exceedingly brazen about it.

Oh, the one exception being the Republican party engaging in rampant voter fraud in a district of North Carolina.

Pure conjecture on your part.

Heritage tracks voter fraud, albeit it limited in scope, and it shows the issue is both a tiny data blip and bipartisan ... certainly doesn't show rampant fraud in Somerville as you project. Staunchly Republican CA counties have been voting by mail for years, yet I don't hear the GOP vocally questioning the legitimacy of these elections. Why? Because they know the issue, though a valid concern, is in practice deeply overblown.

It is, as they say, "fake news".

If the right wingers are against mail in voting, then they surely must be against the military using mail in voting.

Are they? We know the answer to that.

Totally tone-deaf comment. Did it ever occur to you that come Nov 3, there will be still numerous people from vulnerable populations who will not feel comfortable going to a polling place and voting in person?

Never mind the widespread closing of polling places around the country, focused primarily on impoverished areas. What a coincidence.

Never mind that election day, for some silly reason, isn't a National Holiday so that people working crazy hours to survive can actually be off of work and go to the polling place, which pre covid has always been an issue.

Nice omission from my post - kind of the key point here

It increases voter turnout thereby strengthening our democracy. We should all be in favor of this regardless of our party affiliation.
Yep. The reality is that most elections are pretty close. So if you can affect voter turnout by even a seemingly modest amount, that can easily be the margin of victory. Every citizen has the right to vote, and making the process more difficult, will be enough to deter many from voting, and will in turn impact the voting rate, and can affect the election outcome.

Republican politicos have a distinct bias towards making it more difficult for college students and city-dwellers to vote. It's not an accident that those that they try to discourage from voting, tend to vote Democrat.

Have any examples? I can't think of any specific cases from Somerville, but I do remember a case of voter fraud in Belmont in 2010.

There was this one where two voters voted in both NH and MA (for Trump) in 2016. They were caught during a larger investigation which echoed what others are saying here - voter fraud isn't a particularly big issue. It's also possible that the older couple above made an honest mistake rather than an intentional effort to scam the system. They mailed an absentee ballot to NH well ahead of the election, allegedly forgot about doing that, and then voted in person in MA on the day of the election.
