Because candidates wanting to do something about it are almost never elected. They're labeled socialists or even communists. The other rank and file candidates of both parties are dependent on the wealthy for their positions and often promote legislation, including tax codes, developed by the wealthy.

But don't worry, it will trickle down.

They should be ashamed. I hope they give to charities at least.

What would you do if you were them, give it back to the government?

I would absolutely give a good chunk to charity (which we have no knowledge of whether these folks are or aren't), but no way I'd pay a penny more than I owed to Uncle Sam.

The uber wealthy don't get "salaries" as we know it and thus are not subjected to income tax. They pay tax through corporations, have money to pay good accountants, and can move their money almost wherever they please. They also don't need the government, we do. And we keep re-electing people who have enriched themselves in Washington over decades of "public service."

There are many difficult, dangerous, back-breaking and dirty jobs that people manage to do without engaging in fraud, like forest firefighting, roofing, logging, certain types of commercial fishing, manual farm field-work and many others...
