If the police are constantly ‘stealing’ OT money particularly as the cost of living in Boston has become outrageous maybe it’s time to raise their salaries.

Yeah there’s an enormous amount of disdain for law enforcement right now. Anytime a cop messes up the media is all over it.

Now the police union guy that raped kids-that deserves to be on the news and he deserves all
That is coming to him.

We don’t need more reasons. There are plenty

Because the police unions and, to a lesser degree, PDs continue to protect criminal behavior.

Their optics continue to be horrible, and yet the same s____ keeps repeating because unions and LEOs are both apathetic and over confident. They’re losing suburban white support at a rapid rate ... I’d advise they reform while their labor unions still have a thumb on politicos.

I am amazed by how many people think is ok for cops to steal because they only stole 200k, what's that? I assume you are all also ok with not punishing thieves that steal a couple hundred dollars worth of stuff. Actually even more so.

They don't need to live in Boston. They can move since they were pretty much all allowed to retire in their 50s.

No state employee gets a deal half as good as law enforcement. If you are concerned by salary and cost of living in Boston maybe start by asking to raise salary for all other public employee that make a fraction of what cops make and are not allowed full pension in their 50s.

So if they stole such little amounts in a way that was recorded... chances are... they thought it was legit at the time.
That's what has been found so far. If you read other comments it seems pretty obvious that they just steal money routinely. And greedy people take big risks to get more money.

Apples and oranges. You cannot expect most cops (or firefighters/EMTs) to work in the trenches until 65 like a state office worker, for instance. Yes it might be due for pension reform, although with that keep in mind that it's the all they have for retirement. As with state workers, they are not in Social Security nor do they get a 401K match.

I don't understand all these defenses of police charging for hours they don't work! Should businesses also look the other way when their employees cheat them?

No but it certainly happens in plenty of businesses (don't even get me started). Some industries are worse than others, but it goes on plenty in both public and private sectors. Sometimes it's built into a contract or otherwise legal, sometimes not. Apparently what these 9 officers did wasn't. While it's not acceptable in any case, the whole "well at least in private business they aren't stealing from the taxpayers" is load of garbage. The on call "emergency" utility worker who bills ratepayers 8 hours of work for pretty much showing up to flick a switch (oh yeah I forgot about "travel"!), you think "Mr. Taxpayer" isn't getting hosed the same for that?

Some people really need to spend more time looking in the mirror. They may not like what they see, but at least there might be a little more hope for our future (not pointing at you Outdoor Lover).
